Forms, Kata, Poomse, Chang Hon, Chong Oh, Patterns; or whatever you call them you have to practice them. Your form (we'll use this term for practical purposes) can help you in building a solid foundation in your martial arts. I have encountered this type of person over the years: "You don't need forms they are just too traditional and get in the way". Not to be funny or disrespectful but those traditions are there for a reason. Maybe you can't do them the way you are supposed, or you just get them wrong all the time and or never really knew them in the first place. Some people forget their forms after a time and come up with hooky patterns that make no sense what so ever. The best part is when you encounter these folk they are usually American, because we want everything yesterday. Bottom line practice your forms, and make utility of them, learn the Hae Sin Sul, Bunkai or whatever you want to call it to see of there are any techniques that may be valuable to you from your teacher, Sabumnim, Sifu, Sensei or whoever; you might be fondly surprised and just embrace that martial art!
So you want to go one a diet, and get in shape for the summer; eh? Well you search around for some form of a program, yet never consult a doctor, dietitian or someone in the health care field. You start by hitting all the latest fads and all the crazes out there. You try every "it works and you do nothing plan" there is. Failure seem to become the best result you've got. Now it's 2 am in the morning, and you sit in front of your television thinking of the next game plan to you conquest. As you watch and dream of how you too can look like the man or woman dancing around on the screen you think, I'm next!!! As you watch the infomercials, you note the guy claiming to have just only taken a pill and all the weight went away. The night flies by and sit listening intent on wining the battle of the bulge or whatever you want to call sedentary living. Not once does it occur to you that the person living next door to you died of Diabetes, and the person living on the other side of you changed their whole lifestyle around, and invited you to come to their gym on numerous occasions. As you prepare to purchase, a moment of clarity comes over you and there at the bottom of the screen, there in fine print, or even in nice large print you see it: RESULTS MAY VERY!! You realize at that moment you could be doing something a bit more beneficial, say SLEEPING! However; such is not the case for many folks out there. In the world of body balls, bow flexes, and such other exercise equipment, and programs, some of the population fails to realize these programs can all work for you. The all important fact lays in the ability to stick with it. If you pull on those cable chords long enough you will soon notice a change in your strength, if you use that body ball in conjunction with those cable chords, you will soon notice a change also, and when you add proper diet and nutrition to the mix...WOW!!! Now let's not forget the all important will power and the fact that you could gone all the diets and by all the machines that you want, but if you don't have the true desire to run through trail and error, success and failure, then it all will mean nothing. There are a lot of programs out there claiming to be the mecca, and yet all you would have to do is go down to your local gym, or find a friend that is a living testimony to health and fitness, and ask them the questions you need answers to. 100% you 100% Nutrition, and 100% exercise. They say advice is free, and the Internet in which you spend a considerable amount of time browsing on, has a well of knowledge. Don't buy it yet, research it on the Internet and get the exercises for free. When you make health and fitness apart of your life, it becomes easier to achieve what you are looking for. So yeah result may vary, but you can make them vary the way you want.
